Insurance
The International Office (Akademische Auslandsamt) at the Freie Universität
Berlin informs about insurance coverage options provided by various insurance
companies. It also issues a provisional certificate with which the exchange
student can then obtain insurance coverage from his chosen insurance
company. The standard insurance coverage suggested by the International Office
costs 52 Euro / month. (Florian Weissbach, 8/03)
Health insurance is compulsory in Germany and can be expensive depending
on what is covered. As an example of companies which offer short term insurance
there is Hanse Merkur whose premium
amounts to about 2 Euro / day and DKV
at 73 Euro / month. (Antony Owinoh, 8/03)
Insurance policies for international students are offered by Auslandskrankenversicherung
A&S GmbH. (Marko Förstel, 8/03)
